Awakening System β The Strongest Battlegrounds
Awakening is a special powered-up mode available to every default character. It transforms the character's moveset into a more empowered version for a limited time and provides significant combat advantages.
How Awakening Works
- Fill the Awakening Bar by dealing damage to opponents. The bar fills progressively as hits land.
- Activate Awakening by pressing G when the bar is full.
- A startup animation plays before the form fully activates. This animation makes the player briefly vulnerable.
- Once active, the character enters their Awakening form.
Awakening Benefits
- The character's moveset changes entirely to a set of awakening-exclusive abilities
- The character receives a speed boost
- Damage output is significantly increased
- The awakening abilities often have different hitboxes, range, and properties compared to base abilities
Duration
The Awakening form lasts 45 seconds from activation.
Exceptions:
- The Strongest Hero (Serious Mode): Lasts indefinitely β the form does not expire on its own. It ends only when the player dies or uses a move. Health does not regenerate during Serious Mode.
- KJ (Unlimited Power): Also lasts indefinitely under the same conditions as The Strongest Hero.
Awakening Bar Charging
- Every hit on an opponent contributes to bar charge
- Finisher moves typically grant a larger chunk of Awakening bar per hit
- Brutal Demon has the Pump Up passive, which charges the Awakening bar based on damage received (incoming damage fills the bar)
- The Strongest Hero has the Superhuman passive, which reduces the amount of damage needed to deal to reach Awakening from 350 to 200 points, and increases Awakening gain from finishers
Character-Specific Awakening Forms
| Character | Awakening Name | Key Properties |
|---|---|---|
| The Strongest Hero | Serious Mode | Indefinite duration; no HP regen; instant-kill potential; 3 one-hit-kill variants |
| Hero Hunter | Monster Form | Enhanced speed; new moves: Doom Dive, Crowd Buster, Hammer Heel |
| Destructive Cyborg | Ultimate Incineration Cannon | Massive ranged damage; zero-to-death potential |
| Deadly Ninja | Enhanced Speed Mode | Untouchable movement speed; rapid attack chains |
| Brutal Demon | Enhanced Power Form | Increased damage; wider hitboxes; finisher removes up to 70% HP |
| Blade Master | Ultimate Slash Form | Perfected counter timing; rapid attack chains |
| Wild Psychic | Tornado Form | Enhanced crowd control; devastating multi-hit ultimates |
| Martial Artist | Rampage Mode | Increased damage; expanded ultimate moves |
| Tech Prodigy | Iron Giant Ultimate | Transforms into massive mech form |
| Sorcerer | Domain Expansion | Overwhelming damage and crowd control; spatial manipulation |
| KJ | Unlimited Power | Instant-kill potential; indefinite duration |
| Crab Boss | Enhanced Boss Form | Increased durability; expanded area damage |
| Frozen Soul | Fracture of Tundra | Intense ice-based damage |
Timing Awakening Activation
- Activating Awakening mid-combo can extend damage windows, but the startup animation creates a brief vulnerability window
- Using Awakening when the opponent is knocked down or at a distance minimizes the risk of the startup animation being punished
- The Strongest Hero's Awakening charges fastest (4β5 combos), making it one of the most accessible in the game

Character Combos β The Strongest Battlegrounds
Combos are the primary factor separating novice players from experienced ones. Each character has dozens of possible combo sequences. The key principle: avoid repeating the same pattern, as opponents who recognize a pattern can counter it. Mix up sequences to remain unpredictable.

- Downslam = M1 directed downward (usually during air juggles)
- Uppercut = M1 directed upward
The Strongest Hero (Saitama)
Standard combo:

General Combo Tips
- Do not repeat the same combo sequence in a fight. Opponents who recognize a pattern will counter it.
- Vary which combo you use each exchange to stay unpredictable.
- Learn when to transition from offense to defense rather than chaining every combo attempt.
- Watching experienced players on the official Discord accelerates learning proper timing and sequencing.
Character Creator (V1) β The Strongest Battlegrounds
Character Creator V1 is a feature introduced in the Cosmic Update that allows players to build custom playable characters by combining moves and animations from existing characters.
What Character Creator Does
Instead of playing as a pre-made character with a fixed moveset, Character Creator lets players:
- Select base moves from any existing character in the game
- Select ultimate moves from any existing character in the game
- Combine them into a single custom character with a personalized moveset
Features
Move Selection
Players can choose individual base abilities from the existing character pool and assign them to their custom character. This allows for cross-character combinations that do not exist in any pre-made character.
Ultimate Move Selection
Players can choose ultimate (awakening) moves from any existing character to use as their custom character's awakening abilities.
Animators
New animators are available in Character Creator V1, allowing players to customize the movement and idle animations of their custom character.
Block Variants
Players can choose from different defensive animation options for blocking. Block variants change how the character looks when blocking without affecting the block's mechanical function.
Skill Builder Integration
The Skill Builder system is integrated into Character Creator, allowing players to not just select existing moves but also build entirely custom abilities from scratch using the timeline editor. See the skill-builder.md guide for details on using the Skill Builder.
Version Note
Character Creator V1 is the first iteration of this system. The "V1" designation suggests future versions are planned with expanded features.

Combat Mechanics β The Strongest Battlegrounds
The Strongest Battlegrounds uses a combo-based combat system requiring mastery of light attacks, heavy attacks, special abilities, and timing. The game rewards strategic decision-making over button-mashing.
Basic Attacks
M1 (Basic Punch)
Left-click to throw a basic punch. M1 attacks chain together into combo strings, typically up to 5 hits before triggering a knockdown or launching the opponent. M1 strings are the foundation of every combo in the game.
Heavy Attacks
Stronger individual strikes used within combos for extended damage. These connect after M1 strings in specific sequences depending on the character.
Downslam
An M1 attack directed downward, typically used to spike an airborne opponent toward the ground. Central to most combo extensions.
Uppercut
An M1 attack directed upward that launches the opponent into the air, enabling air juggle follow-ups.
Defensive Mechanics
Block
Press F to block. Blocking reduces incoming damage. Blocking has a durability limit β if the opponent attacks enough, the block breaks, leaving the defending player vulnerable.
Block Punish
When an opponent's guard expires (block is broken or they drop their block), attack immediately to punish them.
Dash
Press Q to dash in a direction, used to close distance, escape pressure, or reposition during a combo.
Ragdoll Cancel / Evasive
Press Q while in a ragdolled state to cancel the ragdoll animation early and return to a neutral position. This is sometimes called an "evasive."
Counter-Evasives
Character-specific abilities that dodge or redirect attacks.
Advanced Techniques
M1 String Cancel
After the third M1 hit, dash-cancel immediately into a heavy attack or ability. This prevents the standard knockdown animation and extends the combo.
Ability Chain
Link two or more special ability moves with zero animation gap between them. Requires precise timing to eliminate the transition delay.
Wake-up Bait
After knocking an opponent down, bait their reversal attempt upon standing up, then punish it with a grab or attack.
Air Stall
A jump-based mix-up technique used to confuse the opponent's defensive timing or create advantageous air-to-ground situations.
Ultimate Cancel
Hit the first strike of an Ultimate move, then immediately cancel into an M1 string. This extends the damage window and makes the ultimate harder to escape.
Wall Combos
Use walls in the environment to bounce opponents and chain additional hits that would not connect in open space.
Air Juggling Combos
Launch an opponent upward with an Uppercut, then follow up with additional hits while both players are airborne to extend a combo before the opponent can recover.
Jump Fatigue
Repeatedly jumping causes a fatigue penalty that limits vertical mobility. Managing jump fatigue is important for sustained aerial combat and avoiding vulnerabilities.
Finishers
Finisher moves end a combo sequence with a high-damage final hit. Some character finishers have additional properties:
- Hero Hunter: Finisher restores 20% of the player's HP
- Brutal Demon: Finisher can remove up to 70% of the opponent's HP in a single strike (Strength Difference / final move)
Awakening in Combat
Dealing damage fills the Awakening Bar. Pressing G activates Awakening when the bar is full. During Awakening:
- The character's moveset changes entirely to Awakening-exclusive abilities
- A startup animation plays before the form activates
- The player receives a speed boost
- Damage output is dramatically increased
- The form lasts 45 seconds (or indefinitely for The Strongest Hero and KJ if no moves are used)
Input Method Impact
| Input Method | Combo Execution Speed | Competitive Viability |
|---|---|---|
| Keyboard + Mouse | High | Recommended |
| Gamepad | High | Recommended |
| Mobile | Low | Not recommended for competitive play |
Core Strategy Principles
-
Pick one character and master it. Learn how to react with that character in every situation before trying others. Occasionally study other characters to understand their capabilities and how to counter them.
-
Understand your character's kit. Every character has distinct advantages and weaknesses. Compensate for your character's vulnerabilities during fights. For example, Deadly Ninja struggles at close range β maintain mid-range distance and only close in during combo initiation.
-
Vary your combos. Do not repeat the same pattern in a single fight. Experienced opponents will recognize and counter predictable sequences.
-
Balance offense and defense. Combat rewards knowing when to attack and when to disengage. Retreating defensively is often the correct decision.
-
Study veteran players. Watching high-level players on the official Discord server accelerates learning timing, combo execution, and situational decision-making.

Controls β The Strongest Battlegrounds
Default Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Left Click | Punch (M1 / basic attack) |
| Double Tap W | Run |
| Q | Dash |
| Q (while ragdolled) | Ragdoll cancel / Evasive |
| F | Block |
| G | Activate Awakening (Ultimate Mode) |
| B | Open emote wheel |
Input Methods
PC (Keyboard + Mouse)
Keyboard and mouse is the most common and effective input method for The Strongest Battlegrounds. It allows for the fastest combo execution and precise directional control during combat.
Gamepad / Controller
Gamepad setups are also effective and allow competitive combo execution comparable to keyboard and mouse. This is the recommended input method for console players.
Mobile
Mobile controls are significantly slower for combo execution and are not recommended for competitive play. Players using mobile controls will have reduced ability to execute fast combo chains and will be at a disadvantage against keyboard/mouse and gamepad players.
Advanced Control Notes
Ragdoll Cancel
Pressing Q while in a ragdolled state cancels the knockdown animation early, returning the player to a neutral standing state. This is also called an "evasive." Mastering ragdoll cancel is important for reducing the amount of time you spend in a vulnerable position after being hit.
Block Timing
Blocking (F) absorbs damage but has a durability limit. If the block absorbs too many hits without being released, it breaks, leaving the player open to a combo. Good players mix between blocking and evading rather than holding block continuously.
Awakening Activation (G)
The Awakening bar must be full before pressing G has any effect. Pressing G when the bar is not full does nothing. Once activated, a startup animation plays before the Awakening form goes active β the player is briefly vulnerable during this animation.
Settings
Shift Lock
Shift Lock is a separate Roblox feature that locks the camera behind the character for aiming. It is not enabled by default in Roblox β players must turn it on manually:
- Open The Strongest Battlegrounds
- Press Esc to open the Roblox menu
- Navigate to Settings β View & Control
- Toggle the Shiftlock Switch on
Once enabled, the Shift Lock crosshair appears on screen. The default crosshair is a white dot; players with the customization feature can replace it with a Shift Lock decal code.
Keybind Settings
The UI scale for controls and keybinds can be adjusted in Keybind Settings within the game's settings menu. This is particularly relevant when using the Skill Builder feature, where adjusting the UI scale helps with usability.
Customization β The Strongest Battlegrounds
Shift Lock (Custom Crosshair)
Shift Lock is a Roblox feature that locks the camera behind the character and displays a crosshair on screen. In The Strongest Battlegrounds, Shift Lock is used as an aiming aid and can be customized with decorative decal images.
How to Enable Shift Lock
Shift Lock must be enabled via the Roblox app settings, not the in-game settings:
- Press Esc to open the Roblox menu
- Navigate to Settings β View & Control
- Toggle the Shiftlock Switch on
How to Equip a Custom Crosshair Decal
- Open The Strongest Battlegrounds
- Tap the Settings icon (top-left corner of the screen)
- Search for "Shift Lock" in the settings search bar
- Select "Change Shiftlock"
- Paste the decal ID code into the input field
- Ensure "Hide Shiftlock" is toggled off (red) β if it is on, the crosshair will not be visible

Ranked Duels
Ranked mode (also called Ranked) is a competitive mode where players fight against opponents at a similar skill level. Upon joining Ranked, players enter a lobby with two queues:
1v1 Duels
A duel between two players. Skill-based matchmaking pairs opponents at similar Threat Levels.

Getting Started β The Strongest Battlegrounds
What Is the Game?
The Strongest Battlegrounds is an action fighting game on Roblox created by the group Yielding Arts. It invites players to "train their own original character, or become one from the One-Punch Man world, and fight against other players in immersive PvP battles." The game is primarily inspired by the One Punch Man anime and manga series, with characters, abilities, and aesthetics drawn directly from that universe, alongside at least one character from Jujutsu Kaisen.

Name History
The game went through several name changes, most likely due to copyright concerns:
- Saitama Game
- Saitama Battleground
- Saitama Battlegrounds
- The Strongest Battlegrounds (current name, adopted before April 10, 2023)
Release and Player Numbers
- Release date: August 2, 2022
- Total visits: Over 18 billion
- Concurrent players: Regularly exceeds 100,000 on weekdays; spiked past 1.37 million on major update days
Awards
The game won two categories at the Roblox Innovation Awards 2024:
- Best Strategy
- Best Fighting
Core Gameplay
The game is a player-versus-player (PvP) fighting experience. There is no storyline or quest system β players jump into a shared arena and fight other players using their chosen character. Each character is built around four base abilities, an Awakening Mode with a startup animation, four awakening abilities, and passives.
Players progress through a Threat Level ranking system that reflects their combat skill. Winning matches increases the Threat Level; losing decreases it.
How to Play
- Launch the game at https://www.roblox.com/games/10449761463/The-Strongest-Battlegrounds
- Select a character from the character selection screen (free characters are available immediately)
- Enter the main PvP arena and fight other players
- Deal damage to fill your Awakening Bar; press G to activate Awakening when it is full
- Earn kills to climb the monthly leaderboard and improve your Threat Level ranking
Character Access
- Free characters are available to all players with no purchase required
- Early Access characters require a specific Robux gamepass; they become free for all players at the end of the season
- Exclusive characters require a permanent gamepass (e.g., Private Server+ for Sorcerer)
- Limited/Event characters are only available during specific in-game events and may not return
Input Recommendations
Keyboard/mouse and gamepad setups are recommended for competitive play. Mobile controls significantly reduce combo execution speed and are not ideal for players seeking competitive performance.

Kill Sounds β The Strongest Battlegrounds
Kill sounds are custom audio effects that play for the player when they eliminate another player. This feature requires the Kill Sound Pass gamepass.
Requirements
- Kill Sound Pass: 199 Robux (one-time purchase)
- Without this pass, the default kill sound plays and no custom sounds can be set
How to Set a Custom Kill Sound
- Open The Strongest Battlegrounds on Roblox
- Click the gear icon (top-left corner of the screen)
- Select "Customize Kill Sound"
- If you have not purchased the Kill Sound Pass, you will be prompted to buy it (199 Robux)
- Enter a Sound ID in the "Enter Sound ID" field
- Click "Apply" to activate the new kill sound
Important Notes About "Codes"
The Strongest Battlegrounds has no code-redemption system. Lists of "TSB codes" circulating online are actually Roblox audio asset IDs β they are pasted into the Kill Sound customization field, not a code redemption box. There is no in-game code box. New Sound IDs are shared via the official Discord server.
Kill Sound IDs
The game has 150+ documented Sound IDs. New ones are added periodically by the community and via the official Discord.

Maps β The Strongest Battlegrounds
Main Game Map
The main game map is a single shared arena where all standard PvP battles take place. The map is dynamic and changes based on real-world seasons:
- Winter: Snow accumulates across the map, changing the visual environment
- Summer: A beach-themed variant was added during the Summer 2024 event
Summer Beach Map (Removed)
A beach map was introduced for the Summer 2024 event. This map was removed in the December 22, 2024 update for two reasons:
- It caused server lag that degraded performance for all players in the session
- It enabled teaming abuse β specifically, the Crab Boss event mechanic allowed groups of players to coordinate and exploit the environment in unfair ways
Winter Map Update (December 22, 2024)
Alongside the removal of the beach map, the December 22, 2024 update introduced winter-themed content:
- The Frozen One β a winter boss that appeared on the main map
- Players could take control of The Frozen One by obtaining a Fracture of Tundra crystal, which granted them control of the boss character
Ranked Maps
Ranked mode (1v1 and 2v2 Duels) takes place on 6 dedicated ranked-exclusive maps. These maps are separate from the main PvP arena and are only accessible through the Ranked matchmaking queue.
The specific names and layouts of the 6 ranked maps were not documented in available sources at the time of research.
Ranked Mode and Threat Levels β The Strongest Battlegrounds
Threat Level System
The Threat Level is the primary ranking system in The Strongest Battlegrounds. It measures each player's combat skill and placement on the monthly kills leaderboard. Winning matches increases the Threat Level; losing matches decreases it.
There are 5 threat levels and 4 classes in the game.
Threat Level Tiers
| Tier | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Wolf | 2000th place or higher on the monthly kills leaderboard (lowest tier) |
| Tiger | 400th place or higher on the monthly kills leaderboard |
| Demon | 200th place or higher on the monthly kills leaderboard |
| Dragon | 100th place or higher on the monthly kills leaderboard |
| God Level Threat | 5thβ1st place on the current champions leaderboard (highest tier) |
Ranked Mode
Ranked mode (also called Ranked Duels) is a dedicated competitive game mode where players fight opponents at similar skill levels. Upon joining Ranked, players are placed into a lobby with two sub-game mode queues:
- 1v1 β A single-elimination duel between two players
- 2v2 β A team-based duel between two teams of two players
Ranked Maps
Ranked mode takes place across 6 dedicated ranked-exclusive maps that are not available in the standard PvP arena.
Matchmaking
Ranked uses skill-based matchmaking to pair players against opponents at similar Threat Levels.
3v3 Elo System
The Cosmic Update introduced a 3v3 Elo System with global matchmaking. This mode uses a separate Elo rating to track performance in 3-versus-3 team battles.
Monthly Leaderboard
The monthly kills leaderboard resets each month. Threat Level placement is determined by a player's position on this leaderboard at any given time. Climbing requires consistently winning fights and accumulating kills throughout the month.
Titles
The Fandom wiki contains a dedicated Titles page, indicating there are cosmetic titles associated with specific achievements or rank milestones within the game.
Skill Builder (V2) β The Strongest Battlegrounds
The Skill Builder is a tool that enables players to design entirely custom abilities by chaining existing moves together and modifying their properties through a timeline-based editor.
Access and Requirements
- Located in the Settings menu within a private server
- PC only β Console versions (PlayStation, Xbox) have known limitations and the tool does not function correctly on those platforms
- Requires being in a private server to use
Initial Setup
- Adjust your UI scale in Keybind Settings to improve the Skill Builder interface usability
- Enable the Gauntlet Validator option to catch errors before saving
Basic Configuration
Before building the skill's timeline, fill in the basic settings:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Skill Name | The display name for the custom ability |
| Skill Cooldown | The time between uses after the skill is activated |
Both fields must be filled in for the skill to function.
Timeline System
The core of the Skill Builder is the Timeline. Each skill is made of a sequence of nodes β each node represents one step in the skill's execution.
Per Node, You Configure:
- Which existing skill plays at that step (selected from the character's existing move pool)
- Animation β the animation that plays at this node
- Attack speed β how fast the attack executes
- Animation speed β how fast the animation plays
Nodes chain sequentially, building the custom skill step by step.
Move Variants
Move Variants allow you to create conditional behaviors for the skill. A variant triggers a different version of the skill based on a specific condition being met. Each variant has its own independent timeline, meaning it can have entirely different nodes and sequences.
Available Conditions for Variants:
- Awakening bar status β triggers when the player's Awakening is full or active
- Player health thresholds β triggers based on remaining HP percentage
- Airborne or grounded state β triggers if the player is in the air or on the ground
- Movement direction β triggers based on which direction the player is moving: back, forward, left, or right
Customization Options
Effects
- Intensity (visual effect strength)
- Overall audio volume
- Tempo of the effects
- Damage scaling (modify how much damage the ability deals)
- Knockback adjustments (modify how far opponents are launched)
- Custom color for visual effects
Trails
- Duration (how long the trail lasts)
- Size
- Color
- Attachment points (which body part the trail originates from)
Props
- Weapons or objects that attach to specific body parts during the skill
- Each prop can be attached to any body part
Presets
- Pre-made effects and mesh assets available to load into the skill
- Presets serve as starting points for customization
Validation and Saving
The Gauntlet Validator checks for errors in the skill before it is saved. Common errors include missing hitboxes on attacks, which would cause them to visually play but deal no damage.
To Validate:
- Open the Gauntlet Validator
- Click "Find Issues" to scan the skill
- Address any flagged problems directly within the validator interface
- Save the skill after resolving all issues
Warning: Moves can be saved with errors if the validator is not used. Skills saved with errors may malfunction or fail to work correctly during gameplay.

The following tier rankings reflect character strength in the current meta, based on community and guide site assessments. Character viability changes with updates.

- Strong ultimate ability
- Ability to evade enemy ultimates with proper timing
- Has "everything" β lethal M1, passive perks, and a strong finisher

A-Tier
Brutal Demon (Metal Bat)
- Similar profile to Deadly Ninja but superior overall
- Pump Up passive charges the ultimate based on damage received, meaning taking hits accelerates Awakening
- Final move (Strength Difference) can remove 70% of the opponent's health in a single strike
- Effective against lower-tier characters
Deadly Ninja (Speed-o'-Sound Sonic)
- Built for strategic, positioning-based play
- Teleport ability allows precise positioning before initiating attacks
- Flash Strike and Whirlwind Kick offer good range and are easy to execute
- Weakness: low damage output β requires 5β6 combos to reduce 50% of an opponent's health
- Optimal play requires maintaining mid-range distance (struggles at close range)
B-Tier
Hero Hunter (Garou)
- Beginner-friendly character
- Good rapid animations for trading hits in close-range exchanges
- Fantastic finisher that restores 20% of HP
- Weaknesses: poor range, close-range-dependent abilities, limited mobility
- Recommended as a starting character for new players

An additional tier source indicates the following standings:
Top meta picks:
- Garou / Hero Hunter (Cosmic Fear form) β Counter/combo specialist with Flowing Water ability to redirect attacks
- Saitama / The Strongest Hero β Raw power output
- Genos / Destructive Cyborg β Range/zoning with Incinerate Cannon beam
- Sonic / Deadly Ninja β Rushdown speed with multi-hit Sonic Blade Barrage

Other viable characters:
- Bang
- King (situational)
- Tatsumaki / Wild Psychic (crowd control specialist)
Lower tier:
- Fubuki β Lower damage output
- Watchdog Man β Limited utility
Beginner Recommendation
Hero Hunter is the recommended starting character for new players. Its forgiving animations, HP recovery on finisher, and straightforward moveset make it accessible while learning the game's fundamentals. Once comfortable, players should transition to a character that matches their preferred playstyle.
- Aggressive playstyle: Destructive Cyborg
- Defensive / strategic playstyle: Deadly Ninja
